Parliamentary voting ends in Georgia, election results awaited

Parliamentary elections have concluded in Georgia, with polling stations closing at 8:00 pm on October 26. This year’s election utilized electronic voting technology across more than 90% of polling stations, a first for the country, with traditional voting methods retained at a limited number of stations with fewer than 300 registered voters.

A total of 3,508,294 citizens were eligible to vote in the election, with 18 political entities officially registered to run. Key participants included parties such as the Georgian Dream (No. 41), led by Irakli Garibashvili; the United National Movement (No. 5), led by Tinatin Bokuchava; and the Strong Georgia coalition (No. 9), led by Mamuka Khazaradze. Polls were open at 3,044 stations within Georgia, including 13 special stations—12 in penitentiary facilities and one in a mental health center. Additionally, 67 polling stations were set up abroad across 53 cities in 42 countries, covering a diaspora of 95,910 registered voters.

The 150-seat Parliament will be filled by parties that clear the 5% threshold, with preliminary results from the Central Election Commission expected in the coming hours.
