400 cases of illegal hunting detected in Georgia within first two months of season

Since the start of the migratory bird hunting season in Georgia, the Environmental Protection and Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has uncovered 400 cases of illegal hunting. The highest number of violations (96) occurred in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, followed by 91 in Imereti and 58 in Shida Kartli.

Out of the detected violations, 382 involved the use of prohibited weapons or methods, while 18 cases were linked to hunters not paying the required hunting fees. Additionally, 27 quails were hunted illegally. Authorities confiscated 381 handmade electronic decoy devices used to lure birds.

To curb illegal hunting, the department has intensified 24-hour monitoring across Georgia and swiftly responds to all reports through the Ministry’s hotline (153).
