Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday met with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev as part of his official visit to Sofia, the Parliament's press office said.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the centuries-long friendship and good-neighbourly relations between Georgia and Bulgaria, the body added. Papuashvili thanked Bulgaria for its support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and for its contribution to the EU Monitoring Mission in the country.
The discussion covered bilateral cooperation, including parliamentary ties, with Papuashvili expressing readiness to further strengthen inter-parliamentary connections. The importance of enhancing collaboration and connectivity between the two Black Sea nations was highlighted and Papuashvili welcomed Bulgaria’s participation in the Black Sea submarine cable project.
The press office said talks also touched on Georgia–EU relations. The Speaker reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to fulfilling obligations under the Association Agreement signed with the EU in 2014 and highlighted Georgia’s strategic role as a Middle Corridor country supporting Europe’s energy security.
The meeting took place within Papuashvili’s broader official visit to Bulgaria, where he and the Georgian parliamentary delegation are attending the 66th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
