The speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has congratulated members of the national figure skating team following their performance at the Winter Olympic Games.

Speaking at an award ceremony for athletes and representatives of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation, Papuashvili said the results achieved by Georgian competitors at the Games were a significant success for the country.

He noted that sporting victories and high achievements were not unusual for Georgia, adding that the public expected strong results from national athletes at international competitions.

“Georgians are maximalists. We want to achieve more, we want to be the best and we always strive for victory,” Papuashvili said.

He acknowledged that meeting such expectations can be difficult for athletes, as success in sport requires constant effort and daily dedication.

At the same time, he said public support and the energy of fans provided motivation that helped athletes pursue their goals.

Papuashvili added that public interest in different sports had grown significantly in recent years, with strong nationwide support for Georgian athletes competing under the national flag.

During the ceremony, members of the Georgian national figure skating team and representatives of the federation were awarded the Order of Honour.
