Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has accused Germany’s Ambassador to the country of supporting extremist groups, after clashes occurred outside the ruling Georgian Dream’s Tbilisi campaign headquarters.

In a statement posted on social media, Papuashvili claimed that “titushki” backed by the German envoy attacked the party’s headquarters for the third time, chanting “fascist slogans.”

“The support of extremists by a foreign ambassador during an election campaign, and the failure to condemn violence, constitutes blatant interference in elections and a violation of the Vienna Convention,” Papuashvili wrote.

The remarks follow Sunday’s confrontation on Melikishvili Avenue, where protesters and Georgian Dream supporters clashed near Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze’s campaign office. Several individuals were injured in the incident.
