Papuashvili accuses Baltic politicians of attempting to undermine EU Ambassador over meeting with Georgian FM

Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, has criticized Estonian and Lithuanian politicians, Marko Mikhelson andŽygimantas Pavilionis, for “attempting to discredit” EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Herczyński, following his meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili. Papuashvili expressed his concern that these “harsh statements expose the true intentions” of Baltic politicians towards Georgia and its government.

In his social media post, Papuashvili pointed to earlier actions by the politicians, including their calls for a change in government and rejection of Georgia’s parliamentary election results. He argued that their actions reveal a dangerous trend in the region, undermining the importance of elections and promoting foreign political agendas over the will of the people. He emphasized that the integrity of elections was crucial to maintaining democracy, and foreign pressure to overturn election results would be a sign of the end of democracy.

Papuashvili also warned that such political interference could threaten both Georgian democracy and regional security, with broader implications for Europe. He called for addressing the issue before it develops into an undesirable trend.
