Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has responded to a recent statement by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, which condemned Georgia "for spreading disinformation against the European Union and its ambassador in Tbilisi."

In a post on social media, Papuashvili said:
"Until the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs condemns the call made by a member of its government, Erik Ottoson, on 11 November 2024, for the overthrow of the Georgian government, any condemnation from Sweden directed at Georgia is insincere and unserious."

Earlier, the Swedish Foreign Ministry stated:
"We condemn Georgia’s disinformation against the EU and its ambassador in Tbilisi."

The Swedish statement echoes the European Union’s recent message of full support for EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński, following critical rhetoric from Georgian officials.
