Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Saturday said Ukraine faced a critical impasse, arguing the country could neither continue the war nor bring it to an end.

“There is a difficult situation in Ukraine, the country cannot continue the war, nor can it end the war. This conflict is at a dead end. Continuing the war is difficult and ending it is also difficult,” Papuashvili stated.

He added that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent remarks confirmed that Ukraine now faced “a choice between two bad options.”

Papuashvili also claimed that Georgia previously avoided being drawn into a destructive conflict due to the Government's cautious approach, despite pressure from both internal and external actors.

“When external forces, the opposition and NGOs were pushing us toward war, we said: if anyone knows how such wars begin and how they end, it is the Georgian people. Georgia’s Government was particularly cautious because we stood on the verge of a devastating war,” he said.

Papuashvili added similar attempts aimed to leave Georgia facing the same kind of “two bad choices” he believes Ukraine now confronts.

“This is exactly what they wanted to happen to us - to leave us without a real alternative and force us into two bad options. The Government and the Georgian people prevented this,” he added.
