Russia claims massive drone attack by Ukraine, reports casualties

Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Russian territory early on Tuesday, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ministry reported that air defense systems destroyed 144 Ukrainian UAVs across nine regions.

Among the regions, the Bryansk region saw the most intense activity with 72 drones shot down, followed by 20 in the Moscow region, 14 in Kursk, 13 in the Tula region, 8 in Belgorod, 7 in Kaluga, 5 in Voronezh, 4 in Lipetsk, and 1 in Oryol, the Ministry said.

The only region to report casualties and damage was Moscow. Andrei Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region, confirmed that drones struck two apartment buildings in the city of Ramenskoe, resulting in one death and four injuries.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia carried out its own attacks overnight, launching two missiles and 46 unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine. According to the Air Force, Ukrainian forces downed 38 drones, with three crossing into Russian-controlled territories, including occupied Lugansk.

As a result of Russian strikes, air defense systems were activated across several Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Kirovograd, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Kherson, Cherkasy, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava. In Cherkasy, drones that evaded air defense systems caused damage to infrastructure and homes, injuring two people.
