The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Wednesday issued a statement responding to reports about the alleged deliberate damage to a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) mission vehicle during the Parliamentary elections on October 26.
According to media reports, the vehicle’s tires were damaged in the eastern Kakheti region, Sighnaghi municipality, on election day.
The MIA clarified that upon receiving a notification of a traffic incident, the Public Safety Command Center 112 had “immediately dispatched” a patrol crew to the scene to take appropriate legal action. Law enforcement officers conducted an inspection of the area and interviewed the individual who reported the incident, preparing the necessary documentation, the body claimed.
The driver of the vehicle, which had been parked on the roadside, informed officers that an unidentified vehicle allegedly caused damage to the PACE vehicle while driving along the highway. The driver requested an official report of the incident but did not suspect that the damage was intentional, the MIA said.
