Amendments to Georgia’s law On Labour Migration have entered into force from 1 March, introducing new regulations governing the employment and self-employment of foreign nationals in the country.
Under the changes, foreign citizens may be employed or engage in labour or entrepreneurial activities in Georgia - including remote work - only in compliance with the relevant regulations. To work legally, a foreign national must obtain a “right to labour activity”.
Permits granting the right to labour activity will be issued by the State Employment Promotion Agency.
The application process is fully electronic. Applicants are required to upload the necessary documentation via the official portal: https://labourmigration.moh.gov.ge/.
The right to labour activity is granted for a specific position and a specific employer for a period of up to one year.
Failure by a foreign national to comply with the requirements set out in the law will result in financial penalties for both the employee and the employer, including fines for self-employed foreign citizens.
