Georgian police have seized a significant quantity of illegal firearms and ammunition during a nationwide operation aimed at preventing weapons-related crimes, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Friday.

The large-scale operation was carried out over two days in both the capital, Tbilisi, and various regions across the country. Officers conducted raids and searches as part of coordinated preventive and investigative efforts.

Multiple individuals have been arrested based on court-issued warrants, the MIA said. Several of the suspects were repeat offenders with prior convictions.

During searches of suspects’ homes, vehicles, and other premises, police recovered various types of illegal firearms, ammunition, magazines, bulletproof vests, and other military-grade equipment.

The offences carry a potential prison sentence of up to seven years.
