Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, announced that the Central Criminal Police Department and Kvemo Kartli Police Department, in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office, carried out a large-scale special operation in Tbilisi, seizing an unprecedented amount of narcotic substances - 34,512 methadone pills. This marks the largest-ever methadone seizure in Georgia.
Based on operative intelligence, law enforcement officers searched the residence of E.F., born in 1967, in the Ponichala district of Tbilisi. Police discovered the methadone pills along with nearly 2 liters of liquid containing heroin, morphine, and codeine.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 (2) and (3)(a) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, regarding the illegal possession and storage of narcotic substances in especially large quantities. The suspect has been formally charged and now faces up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Darakhvelidze emphasized that law enforcement units continue to carry out complex, nationwide measures against drug-related crimes:
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to every police officer for their tireless work,” he stated.
