Three laboratories operated by Georgia’s Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have received accreditation under the international ISO 17025 standard, the Interior Ministry has said.
Accreditation was granted to the Microparticles, Soil and Petroleum Products Chemical Expertise Laboratory, the Kakheti Chemical Expertise Laboratory and the Adjara Autonomous Republic Chemical Expertise Laboratory.
The ministry said the laboratories underwent a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the Unified National Body of Accreditation - Accreditation Center, a legal entity operating under Georgia’s Economy Ministry.
The assessment confirmed that the laboratories had implemented quality management systems compliant with international standards, the ministry said.
Officials noted that the accreditation would improve the reliability and precision of forensic conclusions and strengthen the quality of investigative processes.
The Interior Ministry described the recognition as another step towards ensuring that criminal investigations in Georgia are supported by internationally recognised forensic research standards.
According to the ministry, ISO accreditation represents both technical recognition and a guarantee of high-quality expert examinations, which it said was essential for the effective administration of justice.
The Forensic-Criminalistics Department said it would continue reforms and work towards the gradual accreditation of additional forensic and regional laboratories across the country.
