A Turkish cargo aircraft has crashed in Georgia’s Sighnaghi Municipality, in the country’s east, approximately five kilometres from the Georgian state border, the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday. 

According to preliminary information, the aircraft was operating a flight between Azerbaijan and Turkey when the accident occurred.

The ministry said an investigation has been launched under Article 275, Part 4 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to the violation of aviation safety or operational rules resulting in loss of life.

“The Turkish cargo aircraft crashed in Sighnaghi Municipality, around five kilometres from the state border. According to initial reports, it was operating a flight on the Azerbaijan-Turkey route. The investigation is underway under Article 275, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide the public with detailed information on the incident as it becomes available,” the statement said.
