OSCE chief highlights Georgia’s role in regional stability during Tbilisi visit

The Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioğlu, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of stability in Georgia – “not only for the Georgian people, but for the wider region” – during his official visit to Tbilisi.

Speaking after a meeting with officials at Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sinirlioğlu said “stability in Georgia is vital for the interests of the region as a whole, as well as for the establishment of peace and security.”

He also reaffirmed the OSCE’s “longstanding support” for Georgia and its neighbouring countries, highlighting the organisation’s “continued engagement” through conflict prevention mechanisms. “The Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) has now been operational for nearly 16 years,” he said, noting that the OSCE “remains committed to fostering dialogue”, especially between parties experiencing conflict.

“The OSCE is an organisation that has consistently demonstrated the value of dialogue in conflict zones,” Sinirlioğlu added. “We possess a range of mediation tools and are continuously working to support conflict resolution efforts.”

The official further reiterated the organisation’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Georgia: “We want to make it clear to the Georgian people that we are dedicated to contributing to security in the country through every available means at our disposal.”
