Ukrainian troops have cleared more than one-third of Pokrovsk of Russian forces following a week of intensified operations, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on social media on Thursday.
Syrskyi said he completed another working visit to the Pokrovsk sector, where he met with military leadership and commanders of units engaged in the fighting.
He noted that Ukraine’s objectives remain unchanged: holding defensive positions, identifying and destroying as many Russian personnel and equipment as possible, disrupting enemy logistics, and maintaining effective resistance in the air.
“We are blocking attempts to storm cities with small enemy infantry groups. To restore lost positions, our units are also conducting active operations. Over the past week in Pokrovsk, we searched for and eliminated enemy forces across approximately 11.5 square kilometers,” Syrskyi stated.
Given that Pokrovsk covers 29.7 square kilometers, the area reclaimed by Ukrainian forces represents more than one-third of the city.
Earlier today, Vladimir Putin claimed that Russian troops had captured 70 percent of Pokrovsk.
