The Georgian Interior Minister on Friday confirmed the death of six after a landslide hit the country’s Oni municipality on Thursday, in Georgia’s west.
400 rescuers and more than 21 special vehicles were involved in the search and rescue operations, along with two helicopters and the representatives of police from western Georgia, the body said.
Irakli Karseladze, the Infrastructure Minister, on Friday said at least 35 individuals were missing, with Temur Mgebrishvili, the head of the Emergency Management Service, adding the location with cottages had been “fully destroyed” and covered by masses of soil.
In total, 210 individuals have been evacuated from the disaster zone on Thursday and Friday, local authorities said.
The helicopters of the Interior Ministry got engaged in the rescue operation after three hours from receiving information on the landslide, sparking large criticism of the Government in social media.
Prime Minister went to the municipality early on Friday, his administration said.
