Six Georgian opposition parties on Tuesday announced they had united under a “Declaration of Unity” following putting signatures on the President-offered Georgian Charter.

The charter focuses on the country’s aspiration to join Euro-Atlantic structures and promotes unity for common goals before and after the October 26 general elections.

The United National Movement, Girchi-Moire Freedom, Lelo, Ahali, Droa and Strategy Agmashenebeli are among the signatories of the declaration, which, as reported, aims to consolidate efforts to secure victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections and maintain unity post-elections.

The declaration says “in order to win the upcoming elections, we are signing the declaration of unity, which implies unity both before the parliamentary elections and after the elections.”

Key points of agreement among the parties include:

Ensuring opposition votes are not lost due to the five percent electoral threshold.

Agreeing on election participation configurations by July 8.

Refusing to support any government involving the “Georgian Dream” party after the 2024 elections.

Backing a united presidential candidate.

Engaging citizens living abroad in the election process through combined efforts.

Preventing election fraud through united actions.

The signatory parties have also called on other opposition groups to join the declaration.
