Six transformers burnt in a fire at Zahesi HPP in Tbilisi, no one injured

Six transformers were burnt in a fire at Zahesi HPP in Tbilisi earlier today. Noone has been injured in the incident, the Emergency Management Service of Georgia has reported, noting that the fire has been extinguished.

The agency under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia stated that they were notified about strong smoke on the territory of the Zahesi hydroelectric power plant early on May 30. 

“The employees of the Emergency Management Service arrived at the scene as soon as possible after receiving the notification. According to the response groups, the fire spread to six transformers and there was a danger of it expanding to an even larger area. As a result of the timely response of firefighters, the fire was localized and subsequently complete extinction was achieved quickly,” said the agency.

It said that for now the situation is “fully controlled” on the ground. 

Twenty groups of the Fire and Rescue Department were involved in extinguishing the fire.
