Some unhappy by peace, economic development of Georgia – ruling party Sec-Gen responds to US Ambassador

Some people are not happy by peace and economic development of Georgia, Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream, said on Monday in response to the comments by Kelly Degnan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, over the protests in Georgia’s Black Sea city of Batumi following the entry of a cruise ship boarding Russian nationals. 

 

Degnan on Monday said no one should expect Georgians would welcome the citizens from the country that occupies 20 percent of its territories. 

 

In his remarks, Kaladze claimed the country’s door was open for “all tourists”, no matter if they were from Russia, the US or any of the European states. 

 

“The entry of tourists is not a problem. The most important thing is that everyone should respect the constitution of Georgia, the legislation of Georgia, and follow the law. They came to spend money. Does this money go to the economy of Georgia? Actually, what we see, this protest is again and again directed against Georgia, the Georgian economy. People are not happy that there is peace in the country and its economy is developing”, Kaladze said. 

 

He noted the Georgian police would “always act” in accordance with the law. 

 

Nine individuals were arrested  on Monday for disobeying the law enforcement during the protests in Batumi port.
