Sopho Kiladze has been elected as the new chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, she announced on social media on Monday.

Kiladze expressed gratitude to her colleagues for their trust and vowed to prioritize the welfare of children worldwide, including in her home country of Georgia.

“I was honored to be elected as chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. I would like to express my gratitude to all my colleagues who have shown me their trust,” Kiladze wrote. “In this difficult period, I will do my best for the children of the world and Georgia. I am glad that the representative of our homeland, Georgia, has been entrusted with this great responsibility.”
