Speaker: It will be symbolic if EC announces positive assessment on November 8th, Ilia Chavchavadze’s birthday

“It will be symbolic if the European Commission announces a positive assessment for the country to be granted the EU candidate status on November 8, the birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Wednesday.

 

According to him, Ilia Chavchavadze created the Georgian understanding of modern Europe in the nation, and the government follows his principles.

 

“We hope that there will be a positive decision from the European Commission this year. I will emphasize November 8th once again. We are waiting for the evaluation. November 8th is the birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze, who created the Georgian understanding of modern Europe in our nation and whose principles our government follows. It will be symbolic for the European Commission to announce a positive assessment regarding Georgia on November 8th,” Papuashvili said.
