The Georgian special penitentiary service on Wednesday released footage involving imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili and said the publication of the video aimed at providing “objective information” over the former official’s current health.

The move came on the heels of recent claims by Saakashvili’s entourage that the latter was unable to move, with his condition “critical”.

The agency said the “false” claims aimed at “misleading the public and damaging the country’s image”.

The footage shows Saakashvili, who was arrested in Tbilisi in 2021, walking without aid in a ward of Tbilisi Vivamedi civilian clinic, where he has been receiving treatment since May 2022.
