Georgia’s State Inspector’s Office says that the videos which were released by the country’s Special Penitentiary Service last month, depicting the transfer of former president Mikheil Saakashvili from Rustavi prison to Gldani prison hospital ‘insulted the dignity of the former president.’

The state agency has fined the Ministry of Justice and the Special Penitentiary Service 2,000 GEL for the release of the videos and other footage showing information on Saakashvili’s ratio in prison while on hunger strike (food supplements and others), stating that it was personal data.

The State Inspector’s Office instructed the ministry to ensure the deletion of the video-audio materials from the social media.

Saakashvili said that he was transferred to Gldani prison hospital ‘against his will.’

He was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 after eight years in political exile.

Saakashvili suspended his 50-day hunger strike on November 19 after he was transferred to Gori military hospital for treatment.
