State Inspector Londa Toloraia has plans to address the Georgian Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights to appeal the abolishment of the State Inspector’s Service which was created in 2018 to investigate alleged crimes committed by law enforcers.
The abolishment of the agency as it was,and its replacement by two agencies was proposed by the ruling party MPs and was approved by parliament earlier this month, while the president signed the bill yesterday.
Toloraia, who believes that the agency was ‘punished for its unbiased decisions’ by the Georgian Dream authorities, says that she expected the president would veto the bill.
“I believed she would have used her veto right, taking her recent statements into account,” Toloraia said.
“Using the veto would be the sign that there are politicians in the country who have strong reactions towards such issues,” Toloraia said.
President stated that there were no legal grounds to veto the bill, but stated that she did not welcome the replacement of the agency in a hastily manner.
