State medical council: Saakashvili’s post-hunger-strike rehabilitation goes well

The state medical council, which is monitoring the health condition of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, says that the post-hunger-strike rehabilitation of Saakashvili is going on well and that the former president looks better than in previous days. 

Saakashvili agreed to call off his 50-day hunger strike at the end of last week. 

The state medical council visited him in Gori military hospital earlier today. 

“The general therapeutic status of the patient has improved in dynamics. At this stage, the results of the laboratory examination and the therapeutic status are in line with the rehabilitation period. Saakashvili feels more energetic. He is active and is taking food in a strictly defined amount,” said Nino Sharashenidze, a member of the medical council.

 
She stated that Saakashvili has also been visited by neurologist, gastro-enterologist, endocrinologist, and nutritionist, while lab tests are regularly made. 

According to neurologist Alexander Tsiskaridze, the general trend of Saakashvili’s health is positive.

“Certain neurological disorders still remain and it needs time to be treated,” he said. 

A medical panel invited by public defender Nino Lomjaria and a personal doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze are now visiting Saakashvili.
