NATO allies on Tuesday agreed to extend the mandate of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for another year, until October 1, 2024.

The NATO heads of state and government will approve the decision at the Vilnius summit in July.

“I am honored by the decision of NATO allies to extend my mandate as Secretary General. The transatlantic alliance between Europe and North America has ensured our freedom and security for nearly seventy-five years, and in an increasingly dangerous world, our great alliance is more important than ever,” said Stoltenberg.

Norwegian Stoltenberg has been extended three times as NATO Secretary General since 2014.
