Strategi Agmashenebeli calls for bill to increase emigrants’ votes in elections

Giorgi Vashadze, the head of the Parliamentary opposition Strategy Agmashenebeli, on Friday called for domestic opposition groups to merge efforts for a bill that he said would increase the participation of emigrants in the 2024 elections, which is planned to be held electronically. 

 

He stressed the bill should on the one hand ensure the emigrants’ participation in the race electronically, and on the other hand add to the number of foreign polling stations. 

 

“In the cities where more than a hundred of our compatriots live, polling stations must be opened and citizens can participate in the elections. This is an initiative where we all must stand together. We are ready to participate with any force in this most important change and prepare a draft law on how to allow the emigrants engagement in the vote”,Vashadze said.

 

He added “we should ask our partners to create an electronic system that will be protected and safe, and citizens will have the opportunity to register their vote online. Estonia has good experience and we can use it”.
