Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has urged the Strong Georgia coalition and former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia party to join forces ahead of the October 26 general elections.

In a call for unity, Zourabichvili invited both factions to discuss a potential alliance at her Tbilisi office on Tuesday, underscoring the need for a strong alternative to the Georgian Dream ruling party and the United National Movement.

The President highlighted that forming a new coalition could energize undecided voters and boost societal engagement in the upcoming elections.

She offered to mediate the discussions, aiming to provide voters with “clearer choices and a stronger sense of direction”. The invitation has been met with willingness from both parties, though the ruling Georgian Dream party has expressed doubt about the sincerity of the opposition’s motives.
