Such statements may “completely” change the West’s policy to Georgia, Levan Bezhashvili, an MP of the United National Movement opposition party said on Thursday in relation to recent statement of US Senator Jeanne Shaheen over “backsliding of Georgian democracy” and the need for her country to “review” its policy to the country.

“It is up to us politicians to approach the issue seriously, since such statements may completely change the Western policy towards Georgia, which will be disastrous for the country. Therefore, we must mobilize all resources to remove the current authorities from power and ensure the country’s European perspective,” Bezhashvili said. .

The ruling party MP Irakli Zarkua slammed the Senator for “unfounded claims” and  noted “that is why Democrats have lost their majority in Congress”.
