The Head of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, together with the head of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Giorgi Jincharadze, visited the public school in Peri village, Khelvachauri, on Wednesday.

The visit focused on the program for teaching the Abkhaz language, which has been offered at the school for ten years with the support of the Adjara government and funding from the Adjara Ministry of Education and Sport.

Speaking at the event, Tamazashvili thanked educators and emphasized that learning the Abkhaz language was not only about mastering the language, but also about sharing a rich culture and history.

“Teaching the Abkhaz language is not just about learning the language; it is a major sharing of culture and history,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from the head of the Abkhazian government and Giorgi Volski, first vice-speaker of the Georgian Parliament and chair of the parliamentary temporary commission on territorial integrity restoration and de-occupation issues.

Alongside language lessons, students at Peri village school actively participate in cultural and creative activities. During the visit, the school theatre group performed the musical Lampions.

The event was attended by members of the Georgian Parliament, representatives of the Adjara and Abkhaz governments, and local self-government officials.
