Sulkhan Tamazashvili, head of the government of Adjara, has described 31 March as a historic day in Georgia’s modern history, commemorating the 1991 referendum that restored the country’s independence.

He said on Tuesday it is every Georgian citizen’s duty to respect and safeguard the choice that solidified the nation’s statehood.

“On 31 March 1991, Georgian citizens unanimously expressed their unwavering will for freedom, independence, and the values that continue to shape Georgia’s development today. It is our duty to protect the choice that strengthened our statehood,” Tamazashvili said.
