Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Adjara, attended a summer festival in Kobuleti over the weekend, using the occasion to underscore the region’s growing focus on ecotourism and environmental conservation.
Joined by his family, Tamazashvili participated in the festivities held in Kobuleti’s central park, which was decorated with seasonal installations. The event featured a costumed procession, a drama performance, children's activities, and a concert by local performers, drawing large crowds of residents and tourists.
Alongside the celebration, Tamazashvili visited the nearby Ispani peat bog, a protected natural site included on the UNESCO Natural Heritage List. There, he announced the launch of construction on a new observation tower, part of a broader project to enhance ecotourism infrastructure in the region.
Environmentally adapted walking trails and resting areas were completed at the site last year. The current phase aims to improve visitor access while preserving the unique ecosystem of the peat bog.
“The goal is to promote sustainable tourism and attract more visitors to Adjara’s natural heritage,” a statement from the government noted.
