Sulkhhan Tamazashvili, Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, on Monday said continued development of mountain tourism was essential for transforming the region into a four-season tourist centre.
Speaking on the television programme Free Space, Tamazashvili stressed that tourism remained one of Adjara’s top priorities and highlighted 2025 as a particularly successful year for the sector.
“Tourism is a special priority for Adjara. 2025 was a very productive year and we received important international recognition – Batumi was named a leading four-season tourist destination at the World Tourism Awards. This has been a strong motivation for the entire sector,” Tamazashvili said.
He noted that the development of the Goderdzi mountain ski resort, once unimaginable decades ago, represented a major achievement that now required further support and completion.
“It is important that the Goderdzi ski resort is developing very actively. We are doing everything to support this process, which is reflected in ongoing road infrastructure projects. Due to difficult weather conditions, only a small section remains unfinished,” he said.
Tamazashvili added that, in cooperation with Georgia’s Ministry of Economy, plans were in place to install an additional cable car, which he described as crucial for the resort’s future development.
“All of this will enable the region to become a true four-season tourist destination,” he said.
