Adjara government head pays tribute to Patriarch Ilia II

The Head of the Government of Adjara, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, has expressed condolences following the death of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, describing him as a spiritual pillar for both the nation and its people.
In a statement on Wednesday, Tamazashvili said “our country has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. For decades, he was a spiritual support for our country and for each of us.”
He highlighted the Patriarch’s role in strengthening faith, preserving national values, and maintaining spiritual unity in Georgia. “His contribution is immeasurable, both to the Church and to the country,” he added.

Patriarch Ilia II, who led the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, passed away on 17 March at the age of 93.
