Georgian Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamazashvili held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed representative of the UNHCR in Georgia, Anna Rich.
Tamazashvili congratulated Rich on her appointment and wished her success in her new role.
During the meeting, the parties discussed Georgia's international protection system and a range of current issues related to migration and asylum. Particular attention was paid to recent amendments to migration management and asylum legislation, as well as existing challenges and progress achieved in these areas.
The discussion also focused on ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UNHCR.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the interior minister thanked the UN refugee agency for its longstanding support and contribution to strengthening the ministry's institutional capacities over the years. He expressed hope that cooperation between the sides would continue to deepen through joint efforts in the future.
