Two Georgian citizens who were illegally detained near the village of Dvani in the occupied territory of Kareli Municipality have been released and are now in areas controlled by the central government, the State Security Service (SSS) announced on Tuesday.

The SSS said all relevant tools at the government’s disposal were actively used to secure their release. In the interest of the detainees, authorities deliberately withheld names and other details to avoid jeopardising the process.

“Experience shows that maintaining confidentiality in such cases increases the chances of a successful outcome,” the statement said.

The SSS added that it continue to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens held illegally in occupied territories.
