The State Security Service of Georgia on Saturday announced that all individuals questioned as witnesses regarding the BBC report on the alleged use of a poisonous chemical substance during recent events in Georgia denied that their conclusions or information pertained to the banned substance known as Camite.
Lasha Maghradze, First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, stated that the authors of the so-called research themselves explained that they could not determine any use of Camite simply because no investigation had been conducted in that direction.
Maghradze further clarified that, for the public’s understanding, the substance bromobenzyl cyanide, commonly referred to as Camite, causes severe and often lethal effects in humans, which is why it was banned in the 1930s in the modern civilised world.
He also noted that, according to documents obtained from Georgia’s Ministry of Health, following November 28, 2024, emergency medical teams transported 54 people to medical facilities, of whom only five experienced mild intoxication and were released from hospitals the following day.
