Georgian State Security Service detains 30 in nationwide anti-corruption operation

The State Security Service stressed that the Anti-Corruption Agency will continue its efforts to detect and prevent all forms of corruption

The State Security Service of Georgia on Monday announced that its Anti-Corruption Agency had detained 30 people in connection with 12 criminal cases during a large-scale anti-corruption operation across the country.
The operation targeted a range of alleged corrupt activities involving public officials and private individuals. Cases included bribery, abuse of official position, document forgery, fraud, and negligence in the performance of duties.
Among the cases highlighted:
Akhmeta municipality: A local city assembly member allegedly received a 3,000 GEL bribe to facilitate the lease of two hectares of land for a quarantine facility. Investigations proceed under Articles 338 and 25 of the Criminal Code, carrying 6-9 years in prison.
Kobuleti: Two individuals, including a coordinator at the public college New Wave, allegedly issued a fraudulent vocational certificate. Investigations under Articles 332 and 180 carry 4-7 years in prison.
Tbilisi: A firefighter allegedly promised a Greek citizen state-owned land in exchange for 5,000 GEL, taking 1,300 GEL upfront. Investigations under Articles 19 and 180 carry 6-9 years in prison.
Martvili, Poti, Tsageri, Gardabani, Mtskheta, Marneuli, Senaki, Khulo: Multiple cases involve municipal officials allegedly issuing false documents or abusing official positions to facilitate fraudulent registration of land or embezzlement of state funds. Sentences for these offences carry 6-9 years, with one case carrying 4-7 years.
The State Security Service stressed that the Anti-Corruption Agency will continue its efforts to detect and prevent all forms of corruption until Georgia achieves its goal of being among the world’s leading countries for low corruption levels.
