Georgia’s State Security Service (SSS) has issued a statement calling on members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country to demonstrate greater responsibility and respect the work of national security agencies, especially in light of May 7 bomb threat investigations.
The statement comes after the US Embassy in Tbilisi warned American citizens about potential bomb threats at three major shopping malls in the capital—East Point, Galleria Tbilisi, and Tbilisi Mall—advising them to avoid the areas.
SSS confirmed that its units are currently responding to yet another false bomb threat, emphasizing that ensuring public safety remains its top priority. “The service is undertaking all necessary and urgent measures within its mandate,” the agency said.
The agency also urged foreign diplomats to refrain from making public statements without coordination with the relevant authorities, adding:
"We call on representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia to respect the work of security agencies, act with greater responsibility, and avoid making uncoordinated public statements."
