Russian occupation forces have detained two Georgian citizens near the village of Dirbi in Kareli Municipality, close to the occupied territory, Georgia’s State Security Service (SSS) has confirmed.

According to the SSS statement, the EU Monitoring Mission’s (EUMM) hotline was immediately activated upon receiving information about the illegal detention.

“Information has been promptly shared with the Geneva International Discussions co-chairs and international partners. All available mechanisms are being utilized to secure the swift release of the unlawfully detained Georgian citizens. Responsibility for all destructive actions in the occupied territories and along the occupation line rests with the occupying forces,” the SUS statement reads.

At present, eight Georgian citizens remain in detention at Tskhinvali’s prison and pre-trial detention facilities.
