The State Security Service of Georgia on Sunday rejected claims circulating on various media platforms and by certain activists alleging that, based on Ukrainian intelligence materials, secure communication terminals belonging to Russia’s Armed Forces were operating on Georgian territory.
The body said this information was “false” and being disseminated in a coordinated manner.
The agency said that none of the media outlets spreading the claim had contacted the Security Service for verification. Furthermore, no such information has been received from Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, which, according to the Security Service, mentioned the existence of such networks only in Ukraine (near the front line) and on the African continent.
The statement adds that a location tag visible in an image published alongside the Ukrainian intelligence report created “room for misinterpretation” regarding Georgia.
“We are proactively trying to determine what caused the dissemination of material that diverged from the original statement and enabled specific groups in Georgia to run a false, anti-state campaign,” the Security Service said.
Earlier, Ukraine’s military intelligence reported identifying secure communication terminals used by Russia’s Armed Forces, with one of the terminals appearing to be marked on a map as located in Georgia.
