The State Security Service of Georgia has opened an investigation into sabotage and unauthorized access to computer systems, the agency announced.
According to the SSG, the probe was initiated following information received from the Government Administration of Georgia, which indicated a possible cyberattack on the administration’s website. Preliminary findings suggest that manipulations on the site aimed to disseminate false information and potentially damage Georgia’s national interests, including causing adverse political and economic consequences.
Following the suspected criminal activity, the matter was reported in various media outlets and circulated widely on social networks. The SSS said it responded immediately, advising media representatives and certain individuals to refrain from spreading the information in order to prevent further harm to state interests.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 318 and 284 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which cover unauthorized access to computer systems and sabotage.
