On the basis of an individual extradition agreement signed between the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the United States State Department, the extradition of an individual subject to an Interpol red notice for particularly serious crimes was extradited from Georgia to the United States, the Georgian agency said on Tuesday.
The extradited individual had been sought by US authorities from 2017 to 2021 in the state of Texas for charges related to sexual violence against minors and assault on a family member. Additionally, in 2020-2021, there were charges in the state of Louisiana for membership in an organized criminal group and other criminal activities.
Upon the petition of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Tbilisi City Court deemed the extradition of the aforementioned individual to the US admissible.
On December 26, 2023, the Minister of Justice of Georgia issued a final decision on extradition. Subsequently, the individual sought was transferred by the employees of the Special Penitentiary Service to representatives of the competent authorities of the US.
“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia expresses its readiness to continue successful cooperation with the competent authorities of partner countries in the future to ensure that wanted individuals are brought to justice,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office.
