The Georgian foreign ministry on Monday announced it had launched evacuations of 33 Georgian citizens who have been trapped in Sudan since April 15, amid fierce clashes between a regular army and a paramilitary group.

The body said the employees of the Georgian-based two airlines – Myway and Geosky – have been evacuated from the location they were transferred last week from the centre of the Sudanese capital, an epicenter of clashes that have left more than 400 killed and thousands injured.

The foreign office noted the country’s embassies in Turkey and Egypt had been involved in evacuations, with the return of the country’s nationals was expected in the next few days.
