Tbilisi City Hall will take on the complete financing of the Breast Cancer Medicines program for all beneficiaries starting from January 2024, as announced by Mayor Kakha Kaladze during a meeting of the capital’s government.
Under the revised program, expensive medicinal drugs will be fully funded, covering 100 percent of the costs for all beneficiaries, including citizens classified as socially vulnerable.
Prior to this change, the city’s health care and social services provided only 80 percent of the required funding, and in certain cases, as low as 50 percent, for individuals without the socially vulnerable status. Kaladze emphasized that this decision would “significantly alleviate” the financial burden on patients and their families.
For patients in the early stage of breast cancer, Tbilisi City Hall will allocate funding ranging from a minimum of 21,600 GEL to a maximum of 61,150 GEL per year. In the case of metastatic forms, the funding will range from a minimum of 40,500 GEL to a maximum of 65,340 GEL.
