Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Wednesday announced, during a municipal government meeting, that sanctions for exceeding permissible acoustic noise levels were set to become more stringent.

The new regulations are scheduled to take effect starting Thursday.

Kaladze acknowledged that the previously established fines had proven insufficient in deterring instances of excessive acoustic noise. The existing legislation prohibits the surpassing of acceptable noise levels in residential houses, private properties, or public institutions, with corresponding monetary fines in place. However, Kaladze emphasized that the earlier sanctions did not align with the gravity of the violations occurring.

“We recognized the need for more robust measures, given that the fines in place did not adequately address the severity of the violations. Hence, we have prepared a draft law and submitted it to the parliament. We appreciate their cooperation in this matter,” the official noted.

Kaladze urged citizens to adhere to the new law, emphasizing the importance of not causing discomfort to fellow residents. While acknowledging the significance of promoting economic activities, he stressed the need to balance it with respecting the rights of individuals whose health or emotional well-being may be adversely affected by excessive noise levels.

Under the provisions of the new law, violations will incur the following fines:first offense: individuals – 150 GEL, legal entities – 1,500 GEL. Repeat offenses: individuals – 500 GEL, legal entities – 5,000 GEL.Third and subsequent violations: individuals – 1,000 GEL, Legal entities – 10,000 GEL.
