Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated on Wednesday that major infrastructure projects, such as the renovation of Ketevan Tsamebuli Avenue and Melikishvili Street, had caused traffic jams in the capital city, for which he apologized to the population.

The mayor claimed that due to faulty infrastructure, the frequency of buses on 20 routes or nodes was 30 percent less than planned, which led to an increase in waiting time and traffic congestion.

“That is why it is necessary to arrange bus lines”, he stated.

Kaladze said that the city “is now in the transition stage of the transport reform and the population is experiencing discomfort, however, after the completion of the reform, movement in the capital will be much easier than now or in previous years”.

Several large-scale projects are planned to start next year.
