Tbilisi saddened by massive explosion in Yerevan

The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Sunday expressed its condolences over a deadly blast in an Armenian shopping mall the same day, killing at least six, while 18 still missing. 

 

“News about a massive explosion in Yerevan, Armenia is shocking. Our condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the tragedy. We wish swift and speedy recovery to all those injured and stand in solidarity with our Armenian friends in this difficult time!” said the Georgian Foreign Ministry. 

 

The explosion took place in a shopping mall’s fireworks storage area. The pyrotechnics were kept at the city’s Surmalu market.

 

According to preliminary data, the blast has left more than 60 injured, while 18 are still missing. 

 

The incident in the shopping centre took place at 13:23 local time.

 

The law enforcement are looking into the incident.
